Make a Difference Day, October 2011: Century Villages at Cabrillo (Long Beach, CA)

Overview

  • Multi-level exterior priming and painting
  • Interior painting

The Story

The day began at 7 AM in a dense fog, but the sun soon delivered a gorgeous and bright sunny day with temperature in the mid 70’s to warm the volunteers to their work. Forty Rebuilding Together Long Beach volunteers from CSU Dominguez Hills, Molina Healthcare, and residents of the Century Villages at Cabrillo (CVC) community spent the day priming and repainting as part of the National Make a Difference Day. The entire exterior of the South Administration building, which houses the VA Community Based Outreach Clinic and the administrative offices of US Vets, received a fresh coat of much-needed paint.  In addition, volunteers painted the interior offices and training room of the building occupied by Los Angeles Habitation House, another nonprofit at the CVC campus assisting persons with disabilities.  Rebuilding Together Long Beach was very fortunate to have the paint as well as our lunch, snacks and water donated for the workday. We thank RM Hasson for arranging the paint donation from Frazee Paint and AC Catering for a much welcomed and tasty Mexican buffet lunch!  Volunteers interacting with CVC residents and staff had an opportunity to learn more about the program, its partners and the amazing people in the CVC community, underscoring the notion that it really does "take a village."
