Rebuilding Together Long Beach - A safe and healthy home for every person

National Rebuilding Day, Spring 2009

Easley Residence
Long Beach, CA

• Scrape and Clean Metal Carport Overhangs on Both Sides of Mobile Home
• Paint Carport Overhangs
• Build New Handicap Ramp and Stairs with Handrails

On National Rebuilding Day in April 2009, 20 volunteers appeared at the Easley residence, most of them student members of various college organizations at California State University, Long Beach and Dominguez Hills. Ms. Easley suffers from Lupus, COPD, Fibromyalgia and other ailments that prevent her from doing upkeep on her mobile home. She also has difficulty going up and down stairs.

The project consisted of scraping, washing, prepping and painting two metal carport covers and screens. While the energetic and well-coordinated general volunteers got to work scraping and painting, a volunteer professional carpenter built a much-needed handicap-access ramp and stairs for the mobile home.

A La Carte catering generously provided an exceptional made-to-order lunch.

It was inspiring to see so many capable and willing young people show up on a Saturday to reach out to someone in need in their community. The homeowner was delighted with her easy to enter, and newly spruced up home.
