This event occurs annually on the last Saturday of April.
The next National Rebuilding Day is April 23, 2016.
National Rebuilding Day is the signature event of Rebuilding Together, the leading national nonprofit working to preserve affordable home ownership. On this day, affiliates from across the country plan and execute projects to repair and restores homes and non-profit facilities. Over 200 sister affiliates take part in this day of service to bring national attention to the plight of America’s low-income homeowners and the communities in which they live. Individually and jointly, renovation efforts bring volunteers and communities together making a major impact on homes, lives and communities in almost every state across America. It is embraced by community leaders and national sponsors as a way of bringing immediate impact to America’s communities in a single day.
The Long Beach chapter completes 5 to 10 worksites on National Rebuilding Day. This workday is the culmination of a year of planning, evaluating, training, organizing and mobilizing volunteers. We are able to complete projects that require varying levels of skill, such as installation of grab bars, ADA approved toilets, lever door handles, bathroom faucets, smoke detectors, or repairs such as minor plumbing and electrical repair, yard clean up or painting projects.
We can always utilize experienced building tradesmen or handy persons and we welcome assistance from Plumbers, Carpenters, Landscapers, Drywallers, Carpet & Floor Layers, Electricians, Glaziers, Pest Controllers, etc. who can commit 8-12 hours one day a year. General volunteers are also needed to bring energy, enthusiasm and the willingness to tackle any task with a big heart. The scope of work may include painting, cleaning, landscaping, power washing, etc.
