Mr. K

The Volunteer groups took on a hefty list of tasks to be accomplished at Mr. King’s home. Due to his disabilities Mr. King cannot keep up with the general upkeep of his 70 year old home. Led by the House Captain Dan Poulton, of the Clark Construction Group, Inc, the group, including other Clark employees and volunteers from the Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center, split up to conquer the major tasks. The work included scraping and painting the exterior trim of the house which features four tall columns that face the street and the garage. They scraped, patched and painted the living room, bedroom and laundry room. The back porch, which had two large holes and was falling apart with termite damage, was torn down and a new one was built along with reinforcing the porch’s roof. The concrete steps were scraped and painted

The success of the project was not due to the sweat of the volunteers alone. Many local companies generously donated their goods and services to this project. An electrical contractor, Berg Electric, repaired numerous electrical outlets, installed new light switches and donated and installed new light fixtures throughout the house. Another contractor Southland Industries donated and installed a new sink and cabinetry in the kitchen and a new sink with a vanity in the bathroom, with a sink and some fixtures donated by their supplier Ferguson. California Waste Services donated a dumpster for the site, local coffee house It’s a Grind donated the morning coffee and Krispy Kreme gives Rebuilding Together a discounted price on donuts. Lunch was generously donated by BJ’s Pizza. By the end of the day, the team put the finishing touches on the house by installing new blinds in the living room and bedroom. Mr. King was happy to see all of these home repairs get accomplished in one day.
