Complete and Mail an Application
Whether you are referring yourself for assistance or have been referred through a neighborhood association, community organization, service group, or religious institution, the application process is easy.
Follow the instructions in the right panel of this page titled “HOW TO APPLY.” You will need to print the application form and mail it to Rebuilding Together Long Beach. If you are an individual applying for assistance, please remember to include a copy of your property tax statement and your income tax return if you file one. Non-Profit Organizations will need to include a copy of the agency’s IRS Determination Letter.
Application Deadlines are July 15 for October repairs and January 31 for April repairs.
Eligibility Assessment and Site Visit
Once an application is received, it is screened by our volunteer Site Selection Committee which determines whether it meets eligibility requirements. Determinations are based on a combination of each homeowner’s level of need, the complexity of the necessary repairs, and resources available to us at the time. A site visit will be scheduled for those eligible applicants. During a site visit, members of the Site Selection Committee come to the home, meet with the homeowner to discuss the items they have requested assistance with and answer any questions the homeowner has about the program. This visit takes 30 to 60 minutes.
Following the visit, Site Selection presents its findings to the Board of Directors for review and final selection. The Board selects the sites approximately 60 days before a scheduled work day. When selecting a site, the Board must consider potential sponsors, the amount of funds available, and the number and skill level of volunteers required to complete the work. Repairs are then prioritized by an applicant’s level of need. For example, health and safety issues and City code violations have higher priority than painting inside the house.
Applicants are notified by telephone or email whether or not they were selected. Those selected will be advised of the work date and details of the process.
